From 26 to 30 January 2026, four Japanese research leaders of the SATREPS project, Development of a Landslide and Debris Flow Early Warning System in Hue Province, visited Hue, Vietnam, to conduct a field survey. This was the first joint field survey carried out through collaboration among the project’s four research components: observation, hazard analysis and prediction, warning communication and evacuation support, and effectiveness evaluation.
In Hue, the team visited the Bot Do A Luoi 3 and Khe Tre areas, where they worked with local government officials and conducted field inspections to identify landslide and debris-flow sites, candidate locations for monitoring equipment, and evacuation sites. The team also examined how warning information is communicated and how evacuation decisions are made through locally used communication tools, including the social networking app Zalo and the Hue-S app. These findings provided important baseline information for the future operation of the early warning system.
Through this field survey, the project further strengthened collaboration among its research components and made significant progress toward the social implementation of a landslide and debris-flow early warning system in Hue.
